Weekly Fishing Report - Daddy's Tempt Big Trout

Down Lochter way last week there was some great top of the water sport to be had particularly in the cooler misty mornings before the sun eventually broke out for the day.

The daddy fly seemed to be the fly of choice and there were some ‘savage takes’ resulting in some forlorn fishermen mourning the loss of their favourite fly.

An exponent of the ‘daddy’ was Paul Ingram from Newmachar who was out fine and early for a 4-hour session and this fly got him 12 fish to the net including a fine 12lb specimen. He also had several fish ranging from 4-8lb, all from the Muckle Troot loch.

Brian Ross chose the opposite end of the day for an evening session and his efforts with an assortment of dry flies paid dividends as he brought 10 fish to the net.

Colin Farquhar also on an evening session did a bit of ‘klink and dinking’, which proved successful with a bit of ripple on the water, and he landed 9 fish.

Albert Cowie from Fraserburgh had 2 sessions where he was in double figures both times and he fished mainly teams of buzzers at different depths until he obviously found their feeding level.

Albert Trail and Bill Wood had a very satisfying day out with Albert on 15 fish and Bill on 9 fish mostly on small nymphs or mops.

Other notable efforts were Charlie Will with 14 fish on nymphs, Cliff Collie 10 fish on buzzers, Kevin Stewart with 9 fish on fabs and diawl bachs and Jim Gilmour 8 on lures.

With rain forecast for the week ahead it should freshen things up somewhat – which can only be a good thing.

Tight lines,
